Wireless Access at the Briarcliff Manor Public Library

High speed wireless Internet access is available at the Library via your own wireless-enabled laptop or pda. Free access is provided throughout the building during library hours. Your wireless device will most likely automatically detect the Library's wireless network and configure itself to use the system.
The following Hardware and Software are necessary to access the system:
  • A WiFi-compliant 802.11b or 802.11g wireless Ethernet device or built-in WiFi capability
  • A charged battery
  • Headphones if needed
  • A web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Chrome or Safari
  • Up-to-date antivirus software and a personal firewall are highly recommended
Troubleshooting Guidelines for a variety of systems and software are available at the Library for further information, but –
  • The Library assumes no responsibility for the safety of equipment or for laptop configurations, security, or data files resulting from connection to the Library's network.
  • Library staff cannot provide technical assistance with your laptop or other wireless equipment and cannot guarantee that you will be able to make a wireless connection.
These Rules and Disclaimers are in effect for the use of wireless at the Library:
  1. You are responsible for virus and security protection on your computer.

  2. The Library assumes no responsibility for damage, theft or loss of any kind to a user’s equipment, software, data files or other personal property brought into or used at the Library.

  3. This network supports up to five simultaneous users. Signal strength may be affected by bandwidth use by other users.

  4. The Library cannot guarantee that the service will be available at any specific time.

  5. The connection shall not be used for illegal activities or commercial business.

  6. Patrons may be asked to limit their time when others are waiting.
NOTE: The Library Internet Use Policy and Acceptable Use Guidelines also apply to the use of the Wireless Network within the Library.
NOTE #2: For your own protection and privacy, you are advised to install a firewall or other computer security measure when accessing the Internet.
