SUMMARY:Westchester Great Books Council
DESCRIPTION:Join us for monthly stimulating discussions of selections from great world literature\, beginning Tuesday\, February 4th from 7:30-8:45pm in person at the Briarcliff Manor Library. Each discussion will be guided by a trained leader who may ask questions but not answer them. Using the “shared inquiry” method\, readers explore their understanding of a thought-provoking work of literature or philosophy in a well-conducted discussion\, allowing participants to reach a level of insight not often achieved when reading alone. Readings are from the Great Books Foundation’s Standing Down anthology\, available from the foundation: https://www.greatbooks.org/ Copies may be available through your local library. \nFebruary 4th: The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred\, Lord Tennyson and On Caregiving by Walt Whitman \nMarch 11: War and Peace (selection) by Leo Tolstoy \nApril 8: The Moral Equivalent of War by William James \nMay 13: Why War? By Sigmund Freud \nTo register and receive meeting information\, please email your name and phone number to sas246@optonline.net
